The Resettlement Policy Framework (RPF) and Process Framework (PF) document has been developed for iSimangaliso’s GEF project, and is a requirement in terms the World Bank’s Involuntary Resettlement Policy (OP/BP 4.12).
This RPF and PF has been developed as a precautionary measure, as it is presently not possible to determine whether resettlement will occur as a result of the iSimangaliso GEF project. Component 1 of the iSimangaliso GEF Project will focus on selecting the most appropriate option to bring fresh, low-sediment water into the Lake St Lucia estuary system. It is possible that one or more of these options could result in resettlement, impacting on commercial sugar farmers (landowners) and farm workers. The RPF and PF document outlines the process to be followed, and the actions to be taken in the event that Involuntary Resettlement takes place.
