PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE CONGRATULATES iSIMANGALISO FOR CLEAN ADMINISTRATION
23 October 2024
In a meeting held in Cape Town on Tuesday (15 October 2024), the Portfolio Committee on Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment congratulated iSimangaliso Wetland Park for achieving the clean audit from the Auditor General of South Africa again in 2023/2024 financial year. These news were revealed during the briefing by the Public Entities of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment on their Annual Report and Financial Statements.
In addition to the clean audit, the iSimangaliso Wetland Park scored 100% achievement on its Annual Performance Plan (APP) Targets for the financial year. iSimangaliso was audited on 59 targets and maintained an unqualified audit opinion with no findings for the second year in succession. This achievement reaffirms diligent work done by the management of the Park, good cooperate governance and firm commitment to good financial control.
Presenting to the Portfolio Committee, the Chief Executive Officer of iSimangaliso Mr Sibusiso Bukhosini told the meeting that internal measures, improvements in the Supply Chain Management, and avoiding irregular expenditures over the past four years has yielded positive results. Moreover, clean administration came with the increase in park revenue where in the previous financial year the park revenue was R58 million, in 2023/2024 financial year it increased to R67 million.
The park management has worked relentlessly to change the previous notion that was previously characterized by frequent community upheavals due to multiple dissatisfactions to ensure that iSimangaliso contributes meaningfully towards the attainment of government priorities, community upliftment to address social ills and making significant strides to change the livelihoods of the neighbouring destitute communities. “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success”, Henry Ford. This quote supports the achievement of iSimangaliso Wetland Park where traversing together with the same vision brings prosperity.
“I am elated for this achievement, it is the testimony of the collective efforts and hard work that we all bring forth in traversing together as we implement and translate our mission into action,” said Inkosi Tembe. The iSimangaliso has also recruited 200 interns in the second phase of Groen Sebenza Internship, they commenced their duties on the 14th of October 2024.
