Community Hubs

Deep inside iSimangaliso Wetland Park, three community hubs — at Nkovukeni, KwaDapha and Mabibi — are proof that a World Heritage Site can change daily life. Built through the partnership between the iSimangaliso Wetland Park Authority and WILDTRUST under the Marine Protected Area Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) project, the hubs give some of the Park’s most remote communities access to a library, a computer lab and a venue for meetings and community gatherings.

Conservation That Benefits Communities

The hubs are also engines of ocean conservation awareness, connecting the people who live closest to South Africa’s largest marine protected area with the work of protecting it. Through the partnership, more than 27 permanent job opportunities have been created for community members living inside the Park — evidence of iSimangaliso’s belief that conservation must benefit the people who call this place home.
