Western Shores & Charters Creek

The Western Shores and Charters Creek section forms one of the most spectacular wildlife areas within iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Stretching along the western banks of Lake St Lucia, this jewel showcases the Park’s remarkable diversity, where wetlands, woodlands, and grasslands seamlessly merge. It is here that four of the Big Five - elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard, roam freely, complemented by giraffe, zebra, serval and an abundance of antelope species including wildebeest, tsessebe, waterbuck and reedbuck. Hippos wallow in the shallows of the lake, while crocodiles bask along the banks.
